Welcome!

My name is Brittney Judkins and the 2016-2017 school year will be my 4th year at Cole. I will be teaching 8th grade math for the first time, so it's a new adventure! I've taught the P/AP 8th grade the last two years, have taught freshmen Algebra 1 for 4, along with Geometry and Algebra 2 for a semester or two. My favorite so far has been Algebra, and I love calculus, but I'm looking forward to something new.

I'm currently married (going on 5 years now), I don't have any biological children, but I almost always refer to my students as my kids. When people ask if I have kids, I usually tell them "Yep, about 90 of them" and then get a lot of weird stares until I tell them I'm a teacher - then it all makes sense. I do have 3 kitties, which I will often refer to as my furry children as I have a million pictures of them. I like doing crafts (my current obsession is making fabric wreaths) and enjoy reading. I'm almost done with my PhD and will be working on the final phase of my dissertation at the beginning of this school year.

This year, I was hoping to offer the RACE club as a class, but that didn't work out, so I'd like to see who all would be interested in doing it as a club. For those of you who do not know what RACE is, it's a STEM club centered around racing. Students investigate the mathematics involved with building a better race car as well as engineer solutions to improve the car's performance. We were unable to attend a competition last year because of funding, but hopefully we can this year. The club also explores community service, renewable energy, and a variety of other things related to the STEM field. I've attached a flyer below. I'd also like to open it up to high school students, but would need to gauge interest first. If you would be interested in, please fill out the survey. Also, feel free to email me with questions and I'll do my best to answer them. (Also, I'm pretty sure I set the survey to view able by anyone, but if you have difficulty accessing it, please let me know).

This year, I'm going to try something a little different with the students in 8th grade regulars classes. They will have brief introductory lessons online, and then in class we will expand on them and do related activities. In order for them to participate in the in-class activities, they will have to be at a certain point in the online portion. Many of the lessons are currently view-able, but some will not have access until the school year starts and the students get all of their materials. If you would like to take a look ahead, you can visit the site, create an account, and then enter the appropriate code:

Let me know if you have any questions! I'm looking forward to a fun-filled year with everyone.

Below are some links to surveys that should be filled out at the beginning of the year, or if you transfer in, once your student starts. It helps me know a little more about the parents and the students.

Calendar - 2nd quarter - P.AP

Attached is the calendar for the 2nd quarter for Algebra 1 - P/AP. These assignments indicate work that should be completed outside of class time. It includes projects (study plans) as well as videos that need to be completed and put into their notebooks. It also has textbook work and other online work. Their textbook is located at www.pearsonrealize.com. All students have been given login information and directed to the website. The login information was explained in class and all students were present. If they have questions about their access, please contact me.
